JUST celebrates the 50th anniversary of receiving ‘Joliot-Curie’ Medal of Peace by Bangabandhu
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated the 50 years of receiving the 'Joliot-Curie' peace award by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with various events including floral tributes at Bangabandhu's mural at the main gate of the university, colorful processions and discussion meetings.
Today, at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, the program officially started by offering flowers to the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the main gate of the university. Later, a colorful procession was taken out from the main gate of the university. The procession ended in front of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building via the university's central mosque-central playground. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the gallery of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of receiving the 'Joliot-Curie' Peace Medal by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
While speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion, the JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said, "Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stood for the exploited people of the world through his actions. He played a leading role in establishing peace not only in the country but also in the world. That's why the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal suits him.' He said that like Bangabandhu, his daughter Sheikh Hasina is also fighting for peace, freedom and the rights of Bengalis in different ways. To strengthen His hand, we must all be united.”
Former Vice Chancellor of Islamic University, Kushtia Dr. Haroon-Ur Rashid Askari spoke as the main speaker. In a long speech, he highlighted the history of the long struggle and sacrifices of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish peace in the world even before receiving the Joliot-Curie Medal of Peace. He said, at the time when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was given the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal, there was no opportunity to belittle it in the context of time. In my view the Joliot-Curie Peace Prize is more valuable than the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, people are mortal. But his consciousness is imperishable. The young generation should imbibe the spirit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The acting convener of Deans Committee of JUST, Dr. Md. Tanveer Islam; Professor of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience Department Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman; Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, JUST Chhatra League President Sohel Rana, General Secretary Tanveer Faisal and others spoke on the event. Deans, chairmen, heads of departments of various faculties of the university along with teachers-students, officers and employees of different levels were present in the ceremony.
Professor Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib President of the teachers' association presided over the function while the General Secretary Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid, conducted the program.
